John McGough - SUM poster advice.

Hello everyone, This is John from our Thursday afternoon class. I submitted my SUM poster, but we did not get a chance to fully critique it. I was told that the concept was too drastically different from the original poster, therefore there were more things about the poster that needed to be analyzed. Professor Olga had only stated that the poster was too busy, that there are now 3 main points you need to look at in the poster, and it makes it too busy. The Message had changed however between the last class and the newest class. What I took away from the SUM story was a sense of "Identity". I wanted to represent Life being your Identity, and the branches of life would be the choices and decisions in life that were represented in the SUM story. But please, any advice will help me. The Blue Poster was the Original poster, and the Black and white one is the one I designed last week.

I took some advices and changed mine a little bit.
My concept is life is a circle but there's something missing in this one.

I kept the circle and type around it, i enlarged the type so it's easier to read now and i made the tail of each sentence scattered just to make it feel like there's many space between and feel like there's something missing in between. and the whole circle don't look complete because of this.

Michiko

We didn't get a chance to look at my work last class, so I was wondering if you guys could give me any feed back.

My concept is :

“...the thought is blissful: a life where episodes are split into tiny
swallowable pieces, where moments do not endure...”

Life is manageable because you do not have to do everything at once. Our attention span is short and as a result we can only do the same task for a short period of time before the value of the experience decreases. It is important to live in the moment and change to a new task when the experience starts to lose its value, because having that ability is what makes life so great.

This last week I was trying to add emotion and depth to my poster. Make the visual hierarchy more clear and make the whole poster feel more complete.

last weeks :

This one is a lot closer to what I had last week tried adding an off white background to help it feel like one.

I felt like sand relates to my concept because it's little bits that can be put together and rearranged, also the feeling is very calm and pleasant. (not sure if using a photograph is allowed though) In the first one I was using it to bring your eye to the bringing, so you know where to start and the second one to bring your attention to the title of the short story.

This one I used a bubble background, which is a natural and organic pattern to contrast the very organized and structured text. I was hoping to add the calm and happy emotion to my poster.

For this piece I was trying to find the simplest way to add the emotion to my poster, using the emotion that the color.

Thank you!
