poor fellas!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to post my covers on here for you to see and possibly give some feedback before class on thursday.

My concept is the consistant “unsettling” feeling in the play.  This feeling could be caused
by the fact that things are never really resolved, or the wondering that our life isn’t really
controlled by us, it is up to a higher power to decide our fate.

For the first three covers I took them more in the direction of your life possibly being in someone else's hands. This is more straight forward for the first two covers. As for the sky, I wanted it to seem like a "calm before the storm" feeling and also the fact the we are completely powerless to mother nature.

For the last cover, I thought it was interesting how Marc said he didn't give too much thought into the title of the play. This made me feel like the play itself wasn't really resolved, similar to the stories inside. For this cover I wrote synonyms for poor fellas, and crossed them out to try and show an uncertainty for the title. I drew the type in pencil and scanned it in. Ideally, I would like the handwriting to be Marc's if that would be possible to do.

Thanks!

  1. Sorry for responding the post in such late time!
I actually respond more to the first and the third cover, though they look kind of scary in a way. I think the type on the first one could be better (like bring in more hierarchy, perhaps)
Though I prefer the first one than the second one (because they have the similar idea), I think the second one somehow has more humor than the first one (because of the way you draw the hands, maybe). How about fix both first one and the second one and see which one is better? :)
For the fourth one, I don't know if we can do that, though it's a good idea. Sorry I couldn't be helpful for the fourth one. :(
Hope anyone would have time to come here and give Grace suggestions, I don't think my opinion will help you a lot. >"<

  2. Btw, for the third one, how about bring some color for the clouds?
I think all the plays in Poor Fellows has some humor in all of them so maybe try not to make them too scary looking. :)

  3. Hi Grace. I like your new colorful version of sky/sun and your previous #2— drawing of hands. I appreciated the choice of typography that really matches the tone and the imagery of both covers. The big hand and the gloomy sky seem too dramatic and too gradiose for these pays. Your light and humorous ones look more natural (less forced into your concept).

But! I don't really understand the image of your sun/rain, cloud/storm and white/blue dichotomy. Don't we all depend on the frivolous moods of theose powers above us? I think that it is not there yet, especially, the division of the page on whie and blue diagonal on the top of all other imagery.

Hope it was helpful. Good luck. Olga
